Contacting Metro Council & Planning Commission

Constituent engagement is crucial, and we always encourage you to reach out to Metro Council and Planning Commission regarding any pending legislation that may impact you or that you feel passionately about. To help make that as easy as possible, we’ve put together a list of the steps you can take to let your voice be heard.

Email Metro Council

  • Email the Council to voice your thoughts and concerns. You can use this link to send an email to all Metro Council Members.
    • Include the bill # in the subject line.
    • Personalize your message by sharing how the bill would impact you (or others like you) and what your concerns are.
    • Be respectful and kind.
    • Include your home address. (This is important for Council to confirm that public remarks are indeed coming from constituents.)

Attend Public Hearings

  • Plan to attend the public hearing (also called second reading) for the bill you would like to support or oppose.
    • These are typically held at the Historic Metro Courthouse (1 Public Square, Nashville, TN 37201) on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM. Check your bill’s schedule for the relevant public hearing (second reading) date.
    • There is underground parking at the Public Square Garage at the corner of James Robertson Parkway and 3rd Avenue South. (This facility is part of the Historic Metro Courthouse complex and has two entrances: off James Robertson Parkway and off Gay Street.) Located at 101 James Robertson Parkway. Your parking will be FREE — grab a validation card at the Council meeting.
    • During the public comment portion of the meeting, everyone has 2 minutes to speak in support or opposition of the bill. Even if you feel hesitant to speak, it’s important to at least state whether you support or oppose, that way it’s on record how many people spoke up on either side of the issue.

Speak with Your Council Member

  • Request a meeting or phone call with your council member (for the district in which you live as well as the district in which you own/operate your STR).

Email Planning Commission

  • Email Planning Commission to voice your thoughts and concerns. You can use this link to send an email to all Planning Commission members.
    • Include the bill # in the subject line.
    • Personalize your message by sharing how the bill would impact you (or others like you) and what your concerns are.
    • Be respectful and kind.
    • Include your home address. (This is important for them to confirm that public remarks are indeed coming from constituents.)

Attend Public Hearings at Planning Commission

  • Plan to attend the public hearing at Planning Commission for the bill you would like to support or oppose.
    • These are typically held at the Howard Office Building (Sonny West Conference Center), 700 Second Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37210.
